A TRAINING SESSION WAS HELD FOR STUDENTS
On February 12, 2026, a training session was held at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, featuring Ms. Elina Larina, Candidate of Philological Sciences and Associate Professor of the Department of Translation, Theoretical, and Applied Linguistics at the South Ukrainian National Pedagogical University named after K.D. Ushynsky. Faculty members and students of our Institute attended it.
The training focused on the topic “Emotional Intelligence as a Competence of a Diplomat”. During the session, it was emphasized that emotional intelligence is the ability of a diplomat to correctly understand and manage both their own emotions and those of their counterpart, as well as to make sound decisions in complex situations. Key professional requirements for diplomats were highlighted, including the consideration of intercultural nuances, the accurate expression of emotions during negotiations, and the peaceful management of conflicts.
The session also touched upon the significance of Turkmenistan’s status of Permanent Neutrality within international law and the importance of the UN Resolutions adopted at Turkmenistan’s initiative. For future diplomats, emotional intelligence serves as a primary tool for situational management and for strengthening interstate relations through “soft power”. The session, rich in knowledge exchange, garnered great interest among students. Such educational events serve as a vital lesson in enhancing students' skills in diplomatic etiquette, adaptability, and communication.
