The Translation of Poems of Magtymguly Pyragy into the Romanian Language
On January 8, 2026, a presentation ceremony of Magtymguly Fragi’s works translated into the Romanian language was held at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The event was attended by heads of diplomatic missions of foreign states accredited in Turkmenistan, professors and lecturers of the institute, student youth, and representatives of mass media.
The guests of the ceremony also attended an exhibition of art organized at the venue. The exhibition widely showcased works created by Turkmen artists inspired by the poetry of our wise poet Magtymguly Fragi and dedicated to our national values, nature, and Motherland. The skillfully created artworks made a strong impression on the guests.
At the presentation ceremony of the Romanian-language edition of Magtymguly Fragi’s works, speeches were delivered by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Mahri Bashimova, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to Turkmenistan Ion Naval, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to Romania Annamammet Annayev, the Rector of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Gulshat Yusupova, the Senior Researcher of the Magtymguly Institute of Language, Literature and National Manuscripts of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan Nargul Atasheva, the lecturer of the Department of Turkmen Literature of the Magtymguly Turkmen State University Lale Ashyrova, and the Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Begench Matliyev.
The speakers noted that the collection of Magtymguly Fragi’s poems was translated into Romanian by the Turkology Center of Babeș-Bolyai University of Romania.
They emphasized that Magtymguly Fragi is a poet whose legacy is valuable not only for the Turkmen people but for all humanity, embodying universal human significance through its humanistic and philosophical ideas. The international forum titled “Interconnection of Eras and Civilizations – the Foundation of Peace and Development”, held in our country in 2024 on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of Magtymguly Fragi’s birth, further strengthened cultural ties among peoples and demonstrated that our country’s policy of goodwill is aimed at reinforcing friendly and fraternal relations with various nations.
The efforts carried out in our country to deeply study the life and creative path of the wise poet have received broad support from authoritative international organizations and countries around the world. In 2024, the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TÜRKSOY) declared the year as “The Year of the Great Poet and Thinker of the Turkic World, Magtymguly Fragi ,” and the collection of the poet’s manuscripts was included into UNESCO’s Memory of the World International Register. In addition, the 300th anniversary of Magtymguly Fragi’s birth was included into the list of anniversaries jointly celebrated with UNESCO in 2024–2025. All of this is a symbol of the high esteem accorded to the great Turkmen master of words worldwide.
The translation of Magtymguly Fragi’s works into world languages carries special significance. It is worth noting that presentation ceremonies of the poet’s collections translated into Georgian, Uzbek, Kyrgyz, Armenian, and Italian were also held at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. Studied in many world languages, the works of the wise poet have become a universal human treasure and further strengthen relations among peoples.
The wisdom of Magtymguly Fragi’s, who called nations to peace and unity, is being successfully continued today by our Hero Arkadag and Arkadagly Hero Serdar. The contribution of the wise poet to eternal values is now studied worldwide, and the great initiatives that enjoy broad support from the international community help further strengthen friendly and fraternal relations among the peoples of the world.
