Successful Visit of the Turkmen Delegation to Tbilisi: Opening of the Magtymguly Pyragy Classroom and Strengthening of Cultural Ties
In September 2024, as part of the implementation of bilateral cultural and educational initiatives, Turkmenistan sent an official delegation to the capital of Georgia, Tbilisi. The main purpose of the visit was the ceremonial opening of a specialized classroom dedicated to the outstanding poet and thinker of the Turkmen people, Magtymguly Pyragy, at Sokhumi State University. This project marked an important milestone in strengthening intercultural dialogue and academic relations between the two countries.
A significant aspect of the visit was also the presentation of a book of Magtymguly's poems, translated into Georgian. This literary work represents a cultural and historical event, contributing to a deeper understanding and appreciation of the spiritual heritage of the Turkmen people by Georgian readers. The fact that Magtymguly's works have been translated into Georgian is evidence of the poet's relevance in the global cultural context and promotes intercultural integration.
The Embassy of Turkmenistan in Georgia played a special role in organizing and conducting the events. Our delegation, which included People's Artists of Turkmenistan, musicians, bakhshi (folk singers), as well as faculty members from leading Turkmen universities, was met with exceptional hospitality. The Ambassador of Turkmenistan emphasized the importance of strengthening cultural diplomacy as a tool for developing positive intergovernmental relations and deepening cooperation in the field of education.
The program of the visit also included cultural performances, during which Turkmen performers showcased the rich musical and poetic traditions of Turkmenistan, eliciting genuine interest and admiration from the Georgian audience. This event made a significant contribution to strengthening cultural ties between Turkmenistan and Georgia. It not only demonstrated the centuries-old cultural traditions of the Turkmen people but also served as a platform for discussing further steps to enhance scientific, educational, and cultural cooperation, confirming the strong mutual interest in deepening bilateral relations.
I would like to express special gratitude to the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Hero Arkadag, as well as the President of Turkmenistan, Hero Arkadagly Serdar, for their invaluable support and leadership in the development of cultural diplomacy. Thanks to their wise policies and constant attention to the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage, it has become possible to hold such significant international events that contribute to strengthening international ties and enhancing Turkmenistan's standing on the world stage. This visit has become an integral part of strengthening cultural and educational relations between Turkmenistan and Georgia, a significant outcome of the far-sighted policies of the National Leader of the Turkmen people and the President of Turkmenistan. We are confident that the further development of bilateral relations will contribute to even closer ties between our nations and bolster Turkmenistan's position in the international arena.
