The opening event to launch the International Year of Peace and Trust
On January 29, 2021, the opening event to launch the International Year of Peace and Trust has been held at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The event was attended by the heads of foreign diplomatic missions working in Turkmenistan, workers of the national diplomatic service, correspondents of foreign media accredited in the country, the chief editors of newspapers and magazines, deputies of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, rectors and teaching staff of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, International University for Humanities and Development, Turkmen State University named after Magtymguly, Turkmen National Institute of World Languages named after Dovletmamed Azadi and Oguz khan Engineering and Technology University, as well as via videoconference, representatives of the United Nations, the Commonwealth of Independent States, and other international and regional structures, including the young ambassadors of the Sustainable Development Goals – the students of the higher educational establishments.
The Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan delivered a speech at the ceremony and noted the significance of the Resolution "On the Declaration of 2021 –the International Year of Peace and Trust", adopted by the country's initiative at the 73rd session of the General Assembly of the United Nations, and stressed that the work envisaged for the current year in the country's foreign policy is aimed at strengthening global peace and sustainable development. Then, the Chairperson of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly Volkan Bozkyr, Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the UN Aksoltan Atayeva, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov, Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization Hadi Soleymanpur, Chairman of the Executive Committee - Executive Secretary of the CIS Sergey Lebedev, the Chairperson of the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Altay Cengizer, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) Tatiana Valovaya, Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization Lassina Zerbo, Assistant Director-General of UNESCO Firmin Edouard Matoko, Head of the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat Natalya Drozd, Deputy Director, Division for Operations, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Candice Welsch, Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to the United Nations Adela Raz, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus to the United Nations Valentin Rybakov, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Nations Magzhan Ilyassov, Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations Amrit Bahadur Rai, Deputy Permanent Representative of Indonesia to the United Nations, Ambassador Mohammad Koba, Deputy Permanent Representative of People’s Republic of Bangladesh to the United Nations, Minister Monwar Hossain, the students of the higher educational establishments–Young Ambassadors of the Sustainable Development Goals delivered speeches via videoconference. Speakers at the ceremony noted with satisfaction that the initiatives of Turkmenistan aimed at universal human development, peace and security are widely supported by the world community.
The speakers also noted the broad prospects and significant role of Turkmenistan's foreign policy initiatives in ensuring peace and stability in the region. It was emphasized that at present, Ashgabat's initiatives aimed at addressing global issues connected with political, humanitarian and environmental directions are attracting special attention. At the end of the event, the participants expressed their deep gratitude to our highly esteemed President.
