Awarding Ceremony for Young Translators
On February 11, 2025, an awarding ceremony was held at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan to award the winners of the art contest “World Languages – a Bridge of Friendship and Brotherhood” among students of higher educational institutions, jointly organized by the Ashgabat City Council of the Magtymguly Youth Organization, the editorial office of the magazine “World Literature,” and our Institute, to mark the Day of Diplomatic Workers of Turkmenistan.
In accordance with the relevant rules of the competition, students studying at the higher educational institutions of our country translated excerpts from the short stories, poems, or verses of world-famous writers and poets into the Turkmen language and submitted them to the competition. More than 100 young translators, who translated excerpts from English, Russian, Arabic, Korean, German, Italian, and Turkish literature into Turkmen, participated in the creative competition. This shows the great interest of the younger generation in world literature, including foreign languages.
The jury determined the winners by evaluating the quality of the submitted works, their translation skills, and content. Thirty young translators were selected as winners of the creative contest. The winners included Guncha Hamedova, Ogulnar Orazmyradova, and Nurgeldi Atayev, students of the Faculty of International Journalism, Aylar Nedirova, Shyhdurdy Shyhyev, and Yazjeren Tirkishova, students of the Faculty of International Relations, and Kadyrmyrat Ovezglyjov, a student of the Faculty of International Law of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The organizers awarded the winners with certificates of honor and valuable gifts.
Holding literary competitions among students of higher educational institutions helps develop the art of translation, enrich young people’s linguistic resources and foster their passion for foreign languages, improve their language literacy, and stimulate interest in world literature.
