AN IMPRESSIVE LECTURE FOR FUTURE DIPLOMATS

On December 3, 2024, the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan organized the lecture given by Elina Viktorovna Larina, PhD in Philology and Associate Professor in the Department of Translation, Theoretical, and Applied Linguistics at South Ukrainian National Pedagogical University named after K.D. Ushinsky (Odesa). Our honourable professor gave a lecture on "Effective Communication" which was attended by the students of the Institute.
During her presentation, the esteemed guest touched upon the following contexts such as : Communication, its main types and elements. Communication model by G. Lassuela (1).
Effective communication, principles, strategies and tactics. Algorithm for determining the degree of effectiveness of communication.
Principles of effective communication according to G. P. Grice (2) (Grice's maxims). Management of speech conflict.
Problems and barriers in communication: language differences, emotional factors, cultural peculiarities.
Cultural aspects of communication. R. Lewis (3) and his three types of cultures. The importance of considering cultural differences to achieve effective communication in an international context. Effective communication for future diplomats.
Special attention was paid to the importance of intercultural communication in an international context. Students learned the subtle aspects of effective communication, such as the ability to overcome language barriers, recognize emotional factors, and adapt to cultural differences, which foster trust and cooperation. This is particularly significant for diplomats, whose work involves finding common ground among representatives of various countries. Therefore, effective communication, built on respect for cultural diversity, is an essential skill in diplomatic practice.
