A LESSON ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF BILATERAL AND MULTILATERAL COOPERATION IN THE ENERGY SECTOR OF TURKMENISTAN
On April 16, 2024, the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan conducted a training course titled "Development of Bilateral and Multilateral Cooperation in the Energy Sector of Turkmenistan." The course was led by Rahim Akmuradov, an instructor of the Department of International Relations and Diplomacy. Students enrolled in the "Energy Diplomacy" program at the Institute's training center for priority areas of Turkmen diplomacy participated in the session.
In the course of the program, R. Akmuradov used illustrative examples to expound upon the various orientations of energy diplomacy, underscoring their significance in the realm of international relations. Furthermore, he emphasized the pivotal role of the TAPI gas pipeline in fostering bilateral and multilateral cooperation within the domain of energy diplomacy.
The energy system is a priority for Turkmenistan in international cooperation, underscoring its significant role in addressing global challenges. The TAPI project is being executed in accordance with an Intergovernmental agreement and a Framework Agreement on Gas Transportation between the Governments of Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India. Turkmenistan serves as the exporter; while Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India - are the importers. The 56-inch diameter gas pipeline spans 1,853 kilometers, originating from the Galkynysh gas field in Turkmenistan and traversing the borders of Afghanistan and Pakistan before reaching the Indian border.
