INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION IN THE FIELD OF DIGITALIZATION OF EDUCATION EXPANDS IN TURKMENISTAN
On August 29, 2025, an international scientific and practical conference titled “The Potential of Artificial Intelligence in Education for Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals” was held in Ashgabat. This large-scale event was organized by the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan in cooperation with the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (UNESCO IITE) within the framework of the National Program on the Digitalization of Education.
The conference brought together lecturers and scholars from higher educational institutions of Turkmenistan, representatives of UNESCO Chairs and clubs, as well as UNESCO officials and leading international experts. In their presentations, the speakers discussed the importance of digitalization of education, the development of digital and media literacy among youth, the integration of artificial intelligence technologies into the education system, as well as the ethical aspects of their use.
Participants highlighted that artificial intelligence opens up vast opportunities for personalized learning, fostering creativity among young people, encouraging multidimensional exchange of ideas, and improving educational programs in line with the current needs of society. The event also served as a platform for sharing advanced international experiences and discussing prospects for joint projects in the future.
The conference was recognized as an important contribution to the development of education system of Turkmenistan in accordance with global trends, the expansion of international cooperation, and the introduction of innovative educational technologies based on artificial intelligence. Its outcomes are expected to enhance the competitiveness of the national education system, strengthen the country’s position in the international educational arena, and contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
With the support of UNESCO, Turkmenistan is consistently implementing its strategy for the digitalization of education. In this direction, modern digital infrastructure is being developed, teachers’ professional qualifications are being improved, intelligent learning systems are being introduced, and national standards for digital competencies are being established. These measures create broad opportunities for Turkmen youth to receive a modern education and to become competitive in the global educational space.
Thus, the international conference held in Ashgabat became an important step in strengthening cooperation of Turkmenistan with the international community in the field of digital education, exchanging experiences and implementing new technological solutions.
