International Translation Day
International Translation Day is marked on 30 September to pay tribute to the work of translators. It is known that translation plays an important role in international relations. It facilitates dialogue, develops relations and promotes understanding and cooperation among nations, and contributes to strengthening world peace and security. Thus, on 24 May 2017, the General Assembly adopted resolution on the role of language professionals in connecting nations and fostering peace, understanding and development, and declared 30 September as International Translation Day.
Languages play a vital role in development, in ensuring cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue, but also in attaining quality education for all and strengthening cooperation.
An essential factor in harmonious communication among peoples, multilingualism is also regarded by the United Nations General Assembly as a core value of the Organization. By promoting tolerance, multilingualism ensures effective and increased participation of all in the Organization’s work.
In Turkmenistan esteemed President pays special attention to the development of science and education. The issue of learning foreign languages of Turkmen youth occupies a special place in the education system of the country. After all, learning one or more foreign languages is one of the main requirements of these days. For this end, in order to further improve the quality of education, modernize the content of teaching foreign languages at all stages of the education system, and implement innovative language teaching technologies, Turkmenistan launched the concept of improving the teaching of foreign languages in Turkmenistan. As a result, the concept of multilingualism has been formed in our country. The number of professionals who speak three or more languages is increasing day by day. In Turkmenistan, as in other countries, in recent years, language education has been at the center of education policy, which is aimed to preserve and support of linguistic diversity.
One of issues associated with learning foreign languages is translation. Translators or interpreters play an important role in the establishment and development of diplomatic and trade relations between countries. It is necessary for the translator to have perfect knowledge of both the languages he is translating and to be able to express them in the spirit of that language, to carry out the translation work. For this, it is necessary to study both languages regularly and to receive special training in the field of translation.
