The seminar "Multilingualism as a Key to Effective Communication"
On May 29, 2024, a seminar on "Multilingualism as the Key to Effective Communication" was held at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The event was dedicated to the anniversary of Resolution No. 56/262 "Multilingualism" adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on April 9, 2002.
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres emphasized that "The General Assembly has consistently underlined the importance of multilingualism for achieving the goals of the organization as outlined in the UN Charter. Multilingualism promotes harmonious communication between peoples and facilitates multilateral diplomacy." He added that by promoting dialogue, tolerance, and mutual understanding, multilingualism ensures the effective participation of everyone in the work of the UN.
"Recognized by the General Assembly as 'a core value of the organization' that 'contributes to achieving the goals of the UN, as set out in Article 1 of its Charter', multilingualism has been a priority from the start of my term. In an increasingly interconnected world, it contributes to building trust, making the UN more efficient, and more representative and transparent."
The seminar was attended by teachers and students of our institute. Speakers noted that multilingualism, being an essential part of harmonious communication among people, is crucial for the modern world. "Multilingualism helps people to better understand and adapt to different cultures.
Knowing several languages makes it easier to interact with people from different countries and cultures, to understand their values, customs, and traditions. This contributes to the development of intercultural communication and strengthens international relations. In addition, multilingualism requires constant switching between languages and activation of different language systems in the brain, leading to improved brain flexibility.
At the end of the seminar, the participants expressed deep gratitude to Hero Arkadag and Arkadagly Hero Serdar for creating excellent opportunities for young people in our country to learn foreign languages, which are necessary for successful studies and work in the modern world.
