Respect for Elders – Reverence for Wisdom
The International Day of Elders, a celebration embodying the noble values of humanity, is celebrated with unity and enthusiasm in our country, as well as in various countries around the world. In this regard, on October 1, 2024, a ceremony was held at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The event honored the elderly mentors, professors, and teachers, who play a significant role in nurturing future international specialists within the principles of our national values and instilling in them high moral qualities like patriotism, friendship, respect for one another, integrity, and purity of character.
The National Leader of the Turkmen people, Hero Arkadag, has emphasized: “Respect for the elders is a long-standing national tradition. We always attach great importance to these wonderful customs.” Therefore, during the Revival of the New Era of the Powerful State, special importance is given to the wise thoughts and advice of the elders, who, with their rich labor and life experience, inspire us to strive for great goals and new achievements. These traditions, rooted in millennia, ensure continuity between generations and motivate our people to achieve creative and perform great deeds for our nation and Motherland.
As is well-known, on December 14, 1990, the United Nations General Assembly declared October 1st of each year as the “International Day of Elders” in recognition of the noble human values it celebrates. In honor of this international holiday, festive ceremonies and cultural-mass events are held in various corners of the world, reflecting the global respect and esteem for elders.
It is worth noting that during the recent session of the Halk Maslahaty, held on the eve of our glorious Independence in the capital, a large group of elders from all regions of our country have participated, symbolizing the prominence of our national traditions. On this historic day, by the Decree of the esteemed President, several of our compatriots were awarded the title of “Honored Elder of Turkmenistan.”
In this new historical era, the great undertakings of Hero Arkadag and our esteemed President, Arkadagly Hero Serdar, bring joy and pride to our wise elders. May our National Leader, and Esteemed President, who hold such high respect for the elder generation, always enjoy good health, and may their efforts for the benefit of the country always be successful!
