The speakers discussed the outcomes and significance of the 6th Caspian Summit held in Ashgabat on June 29, 2022 with the participation of the President of Turkmenistan, the President of Azerbaijan, the President of Iran, the President of Kazakhstan and the President of Russia.
During the sixth Caspian Summit the Presidents discussed the most important issues of bilateral cooperation in the Caspian Sea, as well as important international and regional issues of mutual interest.
It is known that the Caspian Sea is big natural treasury of hydrocarbon resources, transit and transport hub of continental scale, and a broad opportunity for expansion of international trade. At the same time, the Caspian Sea is a unique eco system with original flora and fauna. Its beautiful nature, rich history and culture made the Caspian Sea one of the most popular tourism destinations of the world.
For more than two decades, issues related to the legal status of the world’s largest inland water body, the Caspian Sea, have been at the forefront of the agenda of modern water diplomacy. The effective model of regional cooperation is needed for the environmental and technological safety of the Caspian Sea. The Caspian Sea is a zone of increased risks of natural and man-made disasters. Therefore, the establishment of effective multilateral mechanisms of cooperation to prevent and neutralize disasters is essential. On this basis, Turkmenistan initiated and developed important documents on the Caspian Sea, such as the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea, which were signed by the Presidents of the five Caspian states.
At the end of the conference, the participants expressed their gratitude to the Hero Arkadag and the President of Turkmenistan for the large-scale work carried out to address the important issues of water diplomacy, environmental protection, sustainable use of natural resources and to improve the well-being of all mankind.
