Results of the chess tournament for diplomats summed up in Ashgabat
Today, the Ashgabat Chess and Drafts School ended a two-day International Tournament among diplomats, to which their family members, students of the Ashgabat Institute of International Relations and representatives of the sponsors of the tournament were also invited.
The first place in the overall standings confidently and with a 100% result – 7 points out of 7 games – was taken by a 2nd year student of IMO Annagozel Mekanova. Five players at once, who scored 5 points each, shared the places from the second to the sixth. The organizers of the tournament had to take into account additional criteria for determining the winners. According to the so-called Buchholz coefficient, another future diplomat, Azim Yangibayev, was in second place, and Isaguly Rzaguliyev, a young representative of the HIL-TM company, was third. Armenian Embassy diplomat Arshak Gevorgyan, American diplomat Brian Davis and Consul of Indian Embassy Sunil Raj Kumar Mallapragada were one step away from the podium. They took 4th to 6th places respectively.
In the women's category, prizes were distributed as follows (taking into account the fact that Annagozel Mekanova had already won a more significant prize in the tournament): IMO students Akgozel Rasulova and Bakhar Choganova took 1st and 2nd places, respectively, and an employee of the Regional Center UN Preventive Diplomacy Elina Larina was awarded the third place.
Diplomas and prizes were also awarded to two girls in the children’s category, as well as to the family team of an employee of the UN Office in Turkmenistan, Geldi Myradov.
Prizes for the winners were provided by Kindi (Instagram: @kindi_tm) and GS1 Turkmenistan.
In turn, the Chess Federation of Turkmenistan, on behalf of the organizers, presented Certificates of Appreciation to the sponsors and volunteers of the tournament, including the general sponsors - the manufacturer of packaging materials for food products Innovapak, the educational center for children's robotics ImdatBot and the manufacturer of promotional products DEM Promotion.
The competition dedicated to the 44th World Chess Olympiad in the Indian city of Chennai from July 28 to August 10 was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the Embassy of India in Ashgabat and the Chess Federation of Turkmenistan.
