TRAINING ON WATER DIPLOMACY, INTERNATIONAL WATER LAW AND SAFETY OF HYDRAULIC STRUCTURES
On June 7, 2024, a training on the rational use of water resources, international water law and the safety of hydraulic structures was held at the Archabil hotel in the capital. The event was aimed at familiarizing with the issues of international legal regulation of water resources in the world and Central Asia, obtaining a complete scientific understanding of the concept of “water cooperation” and its relationship with water diplomacy, educational modules on the rational use of water resources and water diplomacy, as well as other key aspects and tools of water diplomacy.
The training was organized by the USAID Regional Project on Water Resources and Environment in collaboration with the State Committee for Water Resources of Turkmenistan.
The training participants were representatives of the USAID Regional Project on Water Resources and Environment, the State Water Resources Committee of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan, the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the Magtymguly Turkmen State University, and the S.A. Niyazov Turkmen Agricultural University, as well as other universities in our country.
During the meeting, project expert G. Kurtovezov introduced the participants to the training courses “On the rational use of water resources, the safety of hydraulic structures and transboundary water cooperation” and “Transboundary water cooperation”. Next, the expert spoke in detail about the cooperation of Turkmenistan with the countries of Central Asia on the use of waters of transboundary watercourses.
At the end of the training, a discussion took place. Participants asked the expert questions that interested them, to which they received meaningful answers.
