TRAINING COURSE ON WATER DIPLOMACY WAS SUCCESFULLY HELD
On November 27, 2024, a meeting was held at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, organized by the Training Center for Priority Areas of Diplomacy in Turkmenistan. The lecture was delivered by the Professor Italmaz Saparlyev, head of the Department of Hydraulic Structures at the Turkmen Agricultural University named after S.A. Niyazov.
The topic of the meeting was “The Experience of Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan in the Use of Water Resources in Central Asia”. Turkmenistan promotes positive cooperation in the rational use of water resources and transboundary waters, and has initiatived in this area. In this regard, significant attention is paid to compliance with international law and full consideration of the interests of all states in the region. An important step in this direction was our country’s accession in 2012 to the Convention on the Conservation and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes of the UN Economic Commission for Europe.
During the seminar, significant attention was paid to the use of global experience in the implementation of innovative solutions and digital technologies in achieving sustainable water resource management. Particular attention was paid to areas such as the irrigation systems, the rational use of water resources and ensuring their availability and security. At the end of the session, a thematic discussion took place among the participants. Students received comprehensive answers to their questions.
