International Solidarity Day
Several international days celebrated worldwide are of great importance in solving globally significant issues and increasing people's knowledge and awareness of these issues. When such days are declared by a major international organization like the United Nations, their effectiveness is further enhanced.
Since 2006, December 20th has been widely recognized as International Solidarity Day, based on the initiative of the United Nations. Solidarity is one of the highest humanitarian virtues, meaning being in agreement and empathy with others on a particular issue, task, or action. The main purpose of celebrating International Solidarity Day is to promote respect for one another, mutual understanding, and the development of humanitarian qualities such as respecting others' diverse views and opinions. The day plays a crucial role in uniting all people around the world, developing a sense of shared responsibility, and assisting combating poverty.
Every country, society, and family is made up of individuals. The difficulties experienced by one person can also affect the lives of others. The people of Turkmenistan have always considered helping each other in difficult times, solidarity, and empathy as noble qualities. The famous line by the great Eastern wordsmith, philosopher, and poet Magtymguly Pyragy: "It is good to help those in need," reflects the high humanitarian principles of the Turkmen people.
Since its establishment, one of the main principles of the United Nations has been to show solidarity with people suffering from poverty and various hardships. The creation of the international community of nations has helped bring the people of the world closer together, strengthening friendship, promoting peace, security, human rights, and socio-economic development. By declaring December 20th as International Solidarity Day, the 21st century has highlighted solidarity as one of the core values in international relations. Each year, this international day is dedicated to a specific theme, increasing society's awareness of solidarity and helping to foster mutual understanding among all people to achieve sustainable development goals.
