A CONFERENCE TITLED “INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION: A GUARANTEE OF PEACE AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT”
On September 30, 2025, a conference titled “International Cooperation: A Guarantee of Peace and Sustainable Development” was held at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The event was organized to widely promote Turkmenistan’s priorities at the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly. High-level representatives of the United Nations in Turkmenistan, heads of diplomatic missions located in the country, as well as professors, lecturers and students of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan attended to it.
One of the key areas of Turkmenistan’s foreign policy is to foster purposeful cooperation with the United Nations on strategically important issues and tasks on the international agenda. Supporting the further deepening of international relations aimed at solving urgent problems of the modern world, strengthening global peace and security, actively and effectively participating in regional and global cooperation, and promoting President Serdar Berdimuhamedov’s comprehensive proposals on sustainable development, energy, and transport cooperation. These initiatives cover not only the national level but also the future of regional and global development.
In this regard, it should be noted that Turkmenistan’s active participation in the UN General Assembly has enabled the country to be elected Vice-Chair of the Assembly’s 58th, 62nd, 64th, 68th, 71st, 75th, 77th, and 79th sessions. At the current 80th anniversary session, Turkmenistan also put forward clear and well-founded proposals on the main issues of global and regional politics.
Before the conference, participants viewed exhibits of national arts and crafts in the main hall of the Institute, showcasing the values of prosperity and peace. The conference began with the opening speech by Gulshat Yusupova, Rector of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. Afterwards, speeches were delivered by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, Head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia(UNRCCA) Kaha Imnadze, UNDP Resident Representative in Turkmenistan Narine Saakyan, head of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) office in Turkmenistan Jalpa Ratna, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Turkmenistan Gismat Gozalov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Turkmenistan Nurlan Nogayev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kyrgyz Republic to Turkmenistan Azizbek Madmarov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to Turkmenistan Vafo Niyatbekzodan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Turkmenistan Ravshanbek Alimov.
Foreign representatives emphasized that the participation of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov in the Opening Plenary of the 80th anniversary session of the UN General Assembly, and his speech there, not only reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s commitment to its positive neutrality and to the fundamental principles of international law but also demonstrated the country’s readiness to contribute to the development of international cooperation and the strengthening of universal peace.
Furthermore, the speeches on Turkmenistan’s priorities on regional and international issues, along with effective solutions, were outlined. As emphasized by the speakers, ensuring peace and stability and promoting equal cooperation with the world’s nations are integral parts of the state policy initiated by Hero Arkadag and successfully continued today under the leadership of the President.
At present, the importance and necessity of Turkmenistan’s Neutrality are becoming even more evident. Strengthening stability in international relations and promoting a culture of peace and trust represent vital directions of Turkmenistan’s foreign policy. The country consistently undertakes measures in this area, proposing the active use of neutrality’s tools and opportunities to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and to combine efforts in countering global threats. Peacefulness, good neighborliness, mutual respect, friendship, and openness have always formed the foundation of Turkmen national identity—and continue following them.
At the end of the conference, on behalf of the participants of the event, an Address to the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov was adopted, supporting the country’s priorities promoted at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.
