WORLD BREASTFEEDING WEEK
Every year from 1 to 7 August, “World Breastfeeding Week” is held in all over the world. The main purpose of this event is to educate the public that breast milk can protect babies from many diseases.
This week was established in honor of the Innocent Declaration on the Promotion and Support of Breastfeeding, signed in August 1990, by senior government officials, the World Health Organization, UNICEF and other organizations. Breastfeeding improves the health of both the mother and the baby. Breast milk is more than just food, it is also a powerful disease prevention tool. First Milk is rich in antibodies that protect children from disease. Breastfeeding promotes brain development in young children, protects children from infections, and reduces the risk of obesity.
“World Breastfeeding Week” is held to raise awareness among women about the health benefits of breastfeeding for babies. It aims to protect a child's right to breastfeed and a mother's right to breastfeed.
Special attention is paid to the issues of breastfeeding in our country. This is evidenced by the Law of Turkmenistan “On protection and promotion of breastfeeding and requirements for baby food”, which is adopted in 2016, as well as the introduction of a national program for the protection and support of breastfeeding. For its implementation, the Center for the Protection and Support of Breastfeeding was created on the basis of the Scientific and Clinical Center for the Protection of Mother and Child Health.
