International Children's Day
On June 1, our country, along with the world community, celebrates the International Children's Day. This holiday, celebrated since 1949, originally fits into the priorities of the national development of independent Turkmenistan, where caring for the younger generation, protecting the rights of children, creating conditions for their harmonious development has become one of the key directions of state policy.
The holiday Children's Day was established in November 1949 by the decision of the session of the Council of the International Democratic Federation of Women and is celebrated annually on June 1. For the first time, Children's Day was held in 1950 in 51 countries of the world. The UN supported this initiative and declared the protection of the rights, life and health of children as one of the priority areas of its activities.
In accordance with the Geneva Declaration on the Rights of Children, adopted in 1924, the need for social protection of the rights of the child was proclaimed. The Declaration of the Rights of the Child was adopted on November 20, 19 and proclaimed the equal rights of children in the field of upbringing, education, social security, physical and spiritual development, regardless of skin color, nationality, social origin, property status, etc.
In September 1994, Turkmenistan ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The fundamental principles of this international document are reflected in the Law of Turkmenistan "On State Guarantees of the Rights of the Child".
Turkmenistan actively cooperates with such authoritative international organizations as the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations Population Fund, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and the World Health Organization.
The opening of specialized medical centers “Ene myakhri” in Ashgabat and the velayat centers of the country is evidence of the attention on the part of the state in matters of protection of mothers and children. One of the most important social measures is benefits paid at the birth of a child and for caring for him.
Caring for the younger generation, creating the necessary conditions for its full-fledged development, unleashing the creative potential of the country's young citizens will continue being a priority in the domestic policy of Turkmenistan.
