INTELLECTUAL GAME “UN MODEL”
On March 3, 2022, an intellectual game “UN Model” was held at the International University for the Humanities and Development on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the membership of Turkmenistan in the United Nations. The game was attended by 3 students (as delegates) representing the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the Magtymguly Turkmen State University, the International University for the Humanities and Development, the Dovletmammet Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages, the Yagshigeldi Kakayev International University of Oil and Gas.
UN model is a simulation of an actual conference or session of the United Nations, where students are required to solve topical issues of international relations through elaboration, lobbying and discussion of resolutions for the United Nations. The purpose of the game is to expand the knowledge, skills and abilities of students in organizing and holding regular UN sessions. Students simulate negotiations, informal meetings and look for ways to reach consensus, reproducing, in the model, the work of the committees of the General Assembly, drafting resolutions, performing the functions and duties of employees of the UN Secretariat and the General Assembly.
The opening ceremony of the UN Mode took place in the conference hall of the International University for the Humanities and Development. The Vice-Rector of the International University for the Humanities and Development N. Shihliyev, the UNICEF Deputy Representative in Turkmenistan A. Nartea and s student of the IUHD N. Nurberdiyev, elected among students as a chairman of the General Assembly, delivered welcoming speeches. Further, the work of the UN Model continued in a hall specially designed for this event.
During the event, the students of the mentioned higher educational institutions took on the roles of delegates, speakers and a chairman, representing different countries and took part in discussions to reach a solution for the agenda they were assigned. At the end of the simulation, they adopted a final document – resolution containing recommendations for solving the problem under discussion.
The participants of the competition, based on the philosophical thought of the esteemed President “Dialogue – a guarantee of peace”, emphasized the value of the role of dialogue in diplomatic relations among states as an instrument of mutual trust, mutual respect and equality between the peoples of the world.
At the end of the event, the participants conveyed their congratulations to the the National Leader and expressed gratitude to Hero Arkadag for his tireless efforts to maintain peace throughout the world.
