June 3 is World Bicycle Day
Nowadays, in our country, under the wise leadership of our esteemed President, a great attention is paid to the development of cycling. Cycling is an important way of improving physical and mental health and boosting physical activity. Bicycles are considered to be the most popular transport in the world. In this regard, at the 82nd meeting of the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly on April 12, 2018, a relevant Resolution was adopted on the initiative of Turkmenistan to establish World Bicycle Day.
Every year on the 3rd of June World Bicycle Day is celebrated in our country, which has become a noble tradition and is held at high level.
The bicycle is a Latin word which was derived from the sum of the words “velox” - “fast”, “pedis” - “foot”. As the name suggests, the knee and heel parts of the foot are more active in this sport. Cycling contributes to better blood circulation and respiratory rate in the lungs, reducing the risk of developing various diseases. The first cyclists’ association in Ashgabat was founded in 1894. The first cyclists’ race was held in 1895.
It has become our policy to hold mass cycling activities, and the participation of our national Leader in mass activities with our compatriots has led to the development of health care, increase in the number of cyclists, and to protect new ecology in our country.
