October 24 –World Development Information Day
In 1972, the United Nations General Assembly decided to institute a World Development Information Day. The day was further recognized as the date on which the International Development Strategy for the Second Nations Development Decade was adopted in 1970. The goal of the day is to draw the community’s attention to development issues and strengthening international cooperation to address them.
How can we provide information to the community?
Of course, we can provide it through modern technology, especially the media (newspapers, magazines, TV and radio broadcasts). This is because the mass media is a community-based, trustworthy system that accurately and quickly reflects any event in the world.
The development of every country in the world is determined by the living standard of its people. Growth, in turn, depends on a number of indicators. One of the main indicators in this regard is the scientific and educational system. Therefore, education is a key for development.
On World Development Information Day, various events, scientific conferences, meetings are held by states under the auspices of the United Nations. The participants of the meeting discuss development issues. For example, the topics discussed at the seminars between 2005 and 2014 were: issues related to education. Nowadays, modern issues such as politics, ecology and technology are affecting the lives of mankind. This has an impact on the development and economy of the whole country. Issues such as gender equality, climate change, hunger and poverty have an impact on the development of the state. To address these issues, the United Nations is working around the world, and the General Assembly convenes sessions in September each year. At the session of the UNGA, our country regularly puts forward initiatives and proposals for the solutions of issues that pose a threat to humanity.
On World Development Information Day Turkmenistan holds seminars, international scientific conferences and meetings on the achievements of our country in the period of independence in the political, economic, social, and cultural spheres.
