October 24 as International UN Day
The Day of the United Nations, by the decision of the 2nd session of the UN General Assembly, has been celebrated annually since 1948 on October 24. On this day, in 1945, the UN Charter entered into force.
In fact, the UN is considered the largest and most prestigious international organization dealing with serious political problems from which humanity suffers. UN political work is inextricably linked to economic and social issues.
In 1971, at the 26th session, the General Assembly, in resolution 2782, proclaimed this day an international holiday and invited all states to celebrate it as a public holiday.
The United Nations is an international organization established to promote peace, security, development and strengthen interstate cooperation in the world. The UN currently includes 193 states. Our independent, permanently Neutral Turkmenistan has been an active member of this prestigious organization since March 2, 1992.
At present, the main organs of the UN are the General Assembly, the Security Council, the Economic and Social Council, the International Court of Justice, the Secretariat. The organization’s specialized agencies also include the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the International Monetary Fund and others.
Every year, International UN Day is celebrated as part of the United Nations Week, October 20-26. Various meetings, conferences, round tables, exhibitions and international concerts are held on this holiday. Traditionally, on the same day, the UN Secretary-General addressed the world. During the special events, they will also discuss issues related to strengthening cooperation with UN members and congratulate each other on this holiday.
