The International Tea Day is officially celebrated on May 21 every year. It was declared an International Tea Day on December 15 each year, following the World Community Forum in Mumbai, India in 2004 and the conference in Porto Alegre, Brazil in 2005. Because the “World Declaration of the Rights of Tea Workers” was adopted on this date. According to the UN resolution of December 21, 2019, May 15 of each year has been declared as an International Tea Day and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization has been responsible for its celebration.
As you know, the tea is considered to be one of the most consumed beverages in the world. The tea ranks second after water. The first place where the tea plant originated is considered to be in northeast India, northern Myanmar, and southwestern China. Even in the early period , tea production and processing was a source of livelihood for millions of families in developing countries. In addition, tea has been the mainstay of poor families in several countries. The production of tea depends on the weather. This is because tea can only be grown under certain agro-environmental conditions. Temperature fluctuations and heavy rainfall can cause of flooding or drought, affecting the productivity, quality and ultimately the price of tea production.
In our country tea is the main drink since past time. The book “Çaý – melhem hem ylham” which is written from the deep talents of our esteemed President, contains a valuable information about the history of the origin of tea and the role of tea in the life of the Turkmen people.
