International Tea Day
International Tea Day is officially celebrated on December 15 each year. Following the 2004 World Community Forum in Mumbai, India, and the 2005 conference in Porto Alegre, Brazil, December 15 was declared International Tea Day. This is because of the fact that on this date the Universal Declaration of the Rights of the Tea Workers was adopted. In accordance with the UN resolution of 21 December 2019, May 21 of each year has been declared International Tea Day and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization has been responsible for its celebration.
As you know, tea is one of the most widely consumed beverages in the world. It ranks second after water. The origin of the river is believed to be in northeastern India, northern Myanmar, and southwestern China. Even in the early days, tea production and processing was the source of livelihood for millions of families in developing countries. In addition, tea has been the mainstay of poor families in several countries. The production of tea depends on the weather. This is because tea can only be produced under certain agro-ecological conditions. Temperature fluctuations and heavy rainfall can cause flooding or drought, affecting the productivity, quality, and ultimately the price of tea products.
In our country, tea has also been the main drink since time immemorial. The book "Tea - medecine and inspiration", written by our esteemed President, contains interesting information about the history of the origin of tea and the role of tea in the life of the Turkmen people.
