Turkmen-Turkish Relations are Developing
One of the important directions of the creative foreign policy of Turkmenistan, which has started by the efforts of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and being successfully implemented by our Hero Arkadagly Serdar, is to deepen cooperation with neighboring and fraternal countries. Following this goal, the foreign policy of Turkmenistan from the moment of its independence, our country pays much special attention to strengthening relations with the neighbouring states of the region, makes efforts to create an atmosphere of friendship, trusteeship, good neighborliness as well as mutually beneficial partnership. The President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted, the Republic of Türkiye which is a friendly and fraternal state for Turkmenistan, and bilateral relations are of a strategic nature.
Diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Türkiye were established on February 29, 1992. The historical and cultural commonality of the peoples of the two countries, trade and humanitarian cooperation traditions, the closeness of their views on important issues of the international and regional agenda form the basis of fraternal and good-neighborhood relations between Turkmenistan and Türkiye.The work of the joint Turkmen-Turkish government committee on economic cooperation, which was established on December 6, 2007, is an effective tool that regulates the priorities of bilateral cooperation. The rich experience of positive cooperation between the two countries has been accumulated as a result of the proactive actions carried out over the past years. A set of about 170 bilateral official letters signed at the interstate, governmental and interdepartmental levels and covering a wide range of important areas of cooperation forms a solid foundation of Turkmen-Turkish relations. For many years, Türkiye has been the main foreign trade partner of Turkmenistan and occupies a leading position in the level of trade. In 2021, Turkmenistan's exports to Türkiye increased by more than 50%, and Turkey's by more than 27%, as a result, the trade turnover between the countries amounted to one billion 911 million US dollars.
The President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov is currently on official visit to the Republic of Türkiye which will open new pages for further development of Turkmen-Turkish friendly and fraternal relations.
