Turkmen diplomacy: a glorious page of history
Under the wise leadership of the Esteemed President of Turkmenistan, our Motherland is actively involved in the world's political, legal, economic, and cultural spheres. The country's foreign policy is effectively implemented per the Concept of the Foreign Policy Direction of Independent Turkmenistan for 2017-2023. In this regard, Turkmen diplomats play a significant role by contributing to Turkmen diplomacy, protecting the national interests of our country, and expanding international cooperation.
Throughout human history, many professions have emerged and become integral to society. Among these, diplomacy is perhaps the most historic and fundamental. This is fully evidenced by mankind's extensive life experience and the historical legacy of diplomats, who defend national interests.
Diplomacy is often regarded as a delicate art. Master diplomats and statesmen who have dedicated their lives to diplomacy describe it as the art of implementing a state's foreign policy, the «art of reconciliation» and the science of conducting international negotiations. Diplomacy is both a science and an art, the most important instrument of foreign policy, characterized by peaceful engagement between states. Our Hero Arkadag also describes diplomacy as the art of peacemaking.
A diplomat is a defender of interests, representing their nation on the international stage and safeguarding its national interests. This critical duty involves harmonizing the national interests of one’s country with those of other states and all nations. To fulfill this role, diplomats must possess prudence, skill, ability, and true patriotism. Diplomats are considered the elite of any country. They are high-ranking representatives and act as the face of the state in international relations. Consequently, diplomats are entrusted with great responsibility and hold highly esteemed positions in society.
Under the wise leadership of our National Leader, Turkmen diplomacy receives substantial attention and full support, particularly in training excellent diplomats. This commitment is evidenced by the establishment of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan on March 20, 2008, and the designation of February 18 as the Day of Diplomatic Workers of Turkmenistan in 2009, based on the Presidential Decree. This date is now celebrated annually with great enthusiasm. On this day, the National School of Turkmen Diplomacy hosts an international scientific-practical conference and an exhibition attended by foreign diplomats, representatives of international organizations, diplomatic staff, academia, media professionals, and students. During the event, young diplomats and graduates of the Institute of International Relations are awarded diplomas by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. Since 2021, the honorary title «Master Diplomat of Turkmenistan» has been awarded to diplomats for their contributions to protecting the state interests of Turkmenistan abroad, safeguarding the rights of Turkmen citizens, and strengthening international relations across various fields. A diplomat is a well-rounded individual who must master the subtleties of diplomacy. This requires specialized training, which the National School of Turkmen Diplomacy provides. The Institute of International relations offers programs in international relations, international law, international economic relations, and international journalism. With the support of our Hero Arkadag, the Institute provides opportunities for seasoned diplomats to share their invaluable experience, thereby nurturing capable and well-rounded future specialists.
The Institute also hosts scientific and methodological centers dedicated to sustainable development, strategic studies, and diplomatic protocol. Additionally, the Center of Young Diplomats fosters the professional growth of young employees, while the training studio equips students in international journalism, helping disseminate Turkmenistan's visionary policies worldwide. The Museum of the History of Turkmen Diplomacy is a vital resource for inspiring future diplomats. It houses diplomatic documents, artifacts, and memorabilia related to the nation's rich diplomatic history.
By advancing the global initiative «Dialogue Is the Guarantee of Peace» and calling on the peoples of the world to embrace peace and mutual trust, may the creative potential of Turkmen diplomacy continue to flourish under the wise leadership of Turkmenistan's Master Diplomat, Hero Arkadag, and our Esteemed President Arkadagly Hero Serdar. May it resonate widely across the globe, elevating the international reputation of our beloved Motherland, Turkmenistan, from one height to another! Happy professional holiday, Turkmen diplomats!
