The Visit of Antonio Guterres to Turkmenistan
The cooperation of Turkmenistan with international organizations and units of the United Nations is successful. The country's initiatives aimed at promoting understanding and peace between countries are widely supported by the international community. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres's visit on the 5-7-th of July was an important step in strengthening relations between Turkmenistan and the UN.
During the visit, the President of Turkmenistan met with the UN General Secretary, showcasing the continuing strategic dialogue between the two sides. Their common goals include pursuing peace, stability, security, and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
Turkmenistan is a long-term strategic partner of the United Nations in Central Asia. The meeting between the President of Turkmenistan and Antonio Guterres further strengthened this strategic cooperation.
After the conversations, the Turkmen leader awarded the distinguished guest with a medal commemorating the 300th anniversary of Magtymguly Pyragy. As we know, this medal was created in the year of the 300th anniversary of the birth of the great poet, and was presented to the Head of the United Nations. The President also presented a gift badge and the book "Magtymguly" to Antonio Guterres. Guterres expressed his appreciation and emphasized the importance of the philosophical ideas of Magtymguly Pyragy.
The General Secretary announced his support for Turkmenistan in regard of the opening of a regional center for climate change technologies in Central Asia in Ashgabat. The Turkmen side affirmed the readiness to provide comprehensive support for important international initiatives, and the President of Turkmenistan was invited by the distinguished guest to a future Summit in September.
The National Leader of the Turkmen people highlighted the significance of the visit as a significant event in Turkmenistan-UN relations. He expressed satisfaction with the active and effective development of bilateral cooperation.
During his visit, Antonio Guterres visited the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, the UN Representative Office in Turkmenistan, and participated in the opening ceremony of the new building of the UN Permanent Representative Office in Turkmenistan. He expressed his gratitude to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the government of Turkmenistan for their support, expressing confidence in successful cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN in all priority areas.
The current visit and conversations are important steps to expand the efficient relationship and enrich it with new meaning in line with common interests. The agreements reached during the meetings will give a powerful push to the implementation of new projects and programs.
