OSCE Secretary General to visit Turkmenistan
Partnership of Turkmenistan with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe is effective and based on mutual trust and common welfare interests. The meeting of the General Secretary of this prestigious international organization, Helga Maria Shmid, with the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, proved once again that this is.
At the meeting, it was emphasized that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to coordinating efforts to ensure peace, security, and sustainable development in the world, implementing a foreign policy based on the principles of positive neutrality. In this regard, the development of relations with foreign partners, including the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe is one of the priority areas. The country's relations with this organization are dynamic in nature.
During the meeting, urgent issues of cooperation in the important field such as ecology were discussed. Confidence was expressed that the meeting of the Secretary General of the OSCE of Turkmenistan and the ministers of environmental protection of the Central Asian states in Ashgabat on March 4 would contribute to activation of effective dialogue in this system. Last December, the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change was held in Dubai, UAE. At this large-scale forum, our country announced its commitment to the Global Methane Commitment.
At the 78th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations, our honorable President spoke about the initiative to establish a regional center for technologies related to climate change in Central Asia. This clearly shows commitment of Turkmenistan to multilateral cooperation in the field of ecology and environmental protection.
At the meeting, the energy sector was highlighted as one of the promising areas. Noting that Turkmenistan is rich in energy resources, the Turkmen leader emphasized that it is expedient to carry out specific activities in the political, financial and environmental spheres within the framework of the OSCE in order to export energy resources to the world markets and transit them.
Turkmenistan sees the main driving force of international cooperation in the wide implementation of the transport system and the potential of transit corridors. Indeed, the active participation of foreign countries, especially the countries of the region in the creation of stable transit corridors along the North-South and East-West routes, is an important condition for further development of successful cooperation and friendly relations. In this regard, during the conversation, it was confirmed that the establishment of effective relations in the transport sector is of great importance and that Turkmenistan is ready to expand cooperation with the OSCE in these areas.
Confidence was expressed that the traditional cooperative relations between Turkmenistan and the OSCE would continue to develop successfully for the benefit of global peace and well-being.
