INTERNATIONAL ENERGY COOPERATION IS BEING STRENGTHENED
On June 5-6, an international scientific-practical conference titled “Ecological Aspects of Introducing Innovative Technologies in the Development of Hydrocarbon Deposits” was held at the “Archabil” hotel. It was organized by the “Turkmengaz,” “Turkmennebit” state concerns and the state corporation “Turkmengeology.” The event was not only broadcasted in a traditional format, but also digitally in dozens of countries around the world.
This meeting brought together representatives of various national and foreign companies working in this sector. They spoke on the issue of developing a strategy related to the future of the fuel and energy complex at the international, regional and national levels. They also presented analytical information on the state of affairs in the world oil market, marketing strategies in this area, shared their accumulated experience, and new developments. The purpose of the meeting is to strengthen international cooperation aimed at protecting the environment of Turkmenistan and the “green” future between major energy companies, international organizations, scientific societies and financial institutions.
During the general session “Energy Opportunities, New Technologies and Aspects of Exploitation of Hydrocarbon Deposits,” experts noted that this conference allows to evaluate the future of development of energy diplomacy, creation of new technologies and transition to clean energy, review priorities, and heps to solve energy security, environmental protection issues.
During the meeting, experts emphasized the need to ensure the ecological purity of the oil industry, and that the technologies used should contribute to human environmental protection. Therefore, the development of effective and ecologically clean methods for the systematic exploitation of oil and gas deposits is of great importance in protecting the environment from pollution. At present, proposals and standards for new technologies of nature protection are being developed using best practices. Due to the use of the latest equipment and technologies for the extraction of hydrocarbon resources, the infrastructure related to the active development of oil and gas deposits will also evolve.
Then the work of the conference continued in the thematic sessions “New Technologies and Energy Transition Perspective,” “Reduction of Methane and Carbon Dioxide Emissions in Hydrocarbon Production,” “Green Energy Development Initiatives and New Funding Opportunities.” The UN Permanent Coordinator in Turkmenistan Dmitriy Shlapachenko, Head of the OSCE Ashgabat Center John McGregor, Chief Executive Officer of “Capterio” Mark Davis, member of the Board of Directors of “SPE-International,” Middle East and North Africa participated in the meetings and discussions of the conference. Regional Director Hesham Zubari, member of “Yug-Neftegaz Private Limited” Igor Zgurov, “PETRONAS Charigali (Turkmenistan) Sdn Bhd,” “Baker Hughes,” “NaPeCo,” “Mitro International,” “ADNOC,” “CNPC,” as well as experts from famous companies such as “Eni S.p.A.,” “Dragon Oil,” “Lukoil,” leaders and representatives of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), World Gas Center, Forum of Gas Exporting Countries, Society of Petroleum Engineers, Secretariat of the Energy Charter participated in the conference.
Representatives of major international organizations and financial institutions – UN, OSCE, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Japan International Cooperation Bank – joined the discussions through video communication. During the meetings, leaders of the oil and gas industry of the country and foreign companies, leading experts have spoken.
As the foreign guests emphasized, Turkmenistan’s approach to mutually beneficial cooperation, creative initiatives to create a new structure of global energy security are widely supported by the world community. Special attention was paid to the fact that the transition to clean energy is the priority of the economic strategy of Turkmenistan, which ranks fourth in the world in terms of natural gas reserves and implements a long-term, open policy based on the principles of national interests and mutual responsibility of all parties.
The participants of the meeting noted that the solution of the set tasks is directly related to the development of cooperation with foreign companies – manufacturers of equipment for the oil and gas processing industry, representatives of investment organizations.
Within the framework of the conference, online meetings were held between the managers of the enterprises of the fuel and energy sector of the country and their foreign partners to discuss the strategic areas of cooperation.
