UNICEF YOUTH CLIMATE SUMMER SCHOOL SUCCESSFULLY CONCLUDED
The Youth Summer School hosted by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) aimed at enhancing young people's knowledge and practical skills in climate change, sustainable development, and youth leadership has been successfully completed. Organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan, the educational program brought together numerous participants aged 16 to 25 from across the country, including students from the national school of Turkmen diplomacy.
Throughout the Summer School, participants engaged in lectures, interactive sessions, group projects, and practical workshops covering critical areas such as climate change, sustainable water resource management, biodiversity conservation, combating desertification, sustainable urban development, and waste management.
The 2026 Summer School served as a preparatory stage for the Local Conference of Youth (LCOY), supported by YOUNGO the official youth constituency of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Participants contributed directly to drafting the National Youth Statement, which will be submitted to COP31. They also broadened their climate knowledge, enhanced their practical skills, and exchanged valuable experience with peers. Guided by expert-led training, practical sessions, team activities, and educational field trips, the youth thoroughly examined key environmental challenges and formulated vital initiatives.
Within the framework of this international educational program, Medine Jeyhunova, the 2nd year student in the Faculty of International Economic Relations at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, successfully completed the three-month training course and was awarded a special UNICEF certificate marking a significant milestone in advancing the expertise of future international relations professionals.
