UniCen workshop on internationalization
On March 24-25, 2023, American Councils held a UniCEN Internationalization Workshop in Bishkek. The objective of the UniCEN program is to build capacity for substantive international engagement between higher education institutions in the United States and Central Asia.
Prof. Susan Buck Sutton, a Fellow at Institute of International Education’s Center on International Partnerships, and Prof. Tiffany MacQuarrie, associate teaching professor of English and Professor in Charge of Experiential Digital Global Engagement at the Pennsylvania State University introduced various aspects of internationalization and provide information on the U.S. higher education system for 40 Central Asian university representatives from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. From Turkmenistan, the seminar was attended by representatives of five universities, namely the Turkmen State University named after Magtymguly, the International University for the Humanities and Development, the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, as well as the Institute of Telecommunications and Informatics of Turkmenistan.
American Councils shared practical tips on how to begin outreach and continue communication with U.S. university representatives and provided templates to ensure effective communication with U.S.
