Round Table on Transport Diplomacy
A round table on the topic “Turkmenistan and international organizations: cooperation on transport” was held at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan with the participation of heads of specialized higher educational institutions of our country and representatives of international organizations. The rectors of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the International University for the Humanities and Development, the Institute of Engineering, Technical and Transport Communications of Turkmenistan, Head of the OSCE Center in Turkmenistan, Executive Director of the International Center for Transport Diplomacy, UN High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Turkmenistan took part in the round table.
As noted in the speeches of international experts, cooperation in the field of transport and the intensification of efforts of states in this area is an important component of the involvement of countries in world economic processes. Turkmenistan, together with international organizations, has organized a number of projects aimed at improving the rules of transportation, trade, migration rules and others in order to further expand the capabilities of states in the conduct of trade and economic relations. With the support of international organizations, a number of international conferences were also held. They include the first Global Conference on Sustainable Transport in Ashgabat. More than four international documents, which stimulate the development of relations between states in the field of transport, were adopted.
It was noted about the importance and geopolitical advantages of Turkmenistan for the implementation of international projects in the field of transport and communications. The advantages of the geographical location of Turkmenistan at the crossroads of the main routes of the continent provide an opportunity for all countries of the region to profitably use the multimodal transport infrastructure being rapidly formed in our state to ensure strategic transit corridors of Eurasia. This fact and the constructive initiatives of the National Leader became the basis for the speech of the President of Turkmenistan at the 2nd Global Conference on Sustainable Transport.
The Forum has become an effective step in the further development of mutually beneficial international partnership in this important area. Consistent accession to the world transport system and further improvement of the structures of the main routes connecting the main roads and centers along the East-West and North-South directions are one of the priority tasks of Turkmenistan’s foreign policy. The creation of important logistics routes associated with the achievement of the revival of the Great Silk Road in a new form and the unification of the economic spaces of Eurasia is of great importance not only for the region but also for the world as a whole.
Thus, the “round table” organized with the participation of experts on transport issues has become an important platform for the exchange of productive opinions on the development of the world’s transport system and analysis of the international initiatives of the President of Turkmenistan put forward within the framework of authoritative organizations and forums.
