LECTURE ON WATER DIPLOMACY
On December 22, 2022, a regular lecture on water diplomacy was held at the Center for the Priority Areas of Diplomacy of Turkmenistan established at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan with the participation of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to the People’s Republic of China, Parahat Durdiyev and the students of the Institute. The lecture was devoted to the current work on water issues between Turkmenistan and the People’s Republic of China.
During the lecture, Ambassador Parahat Durdiyev told about the ongoing work on the rational use of water in the region, and he also noted that the priorities of the policy of the two countries are to protect environment, to take care for nature, to conserve its resources for future generations, to reasonably use land and water resources, to create good conditions for the life of the Turkmen people and to unite the efforts of the world community in achieving Sustainable Development Goals.
During the event, the importance of relying on universally recognized norms of international law, taking into account the interests of all countries of the region, the need to involve authoritative international organizations, primarily the UN, in solving water and energy issues, was emphasized. This session was very effective for the students and they received all the answers for their questions.
