An important area of Turkmen diplomacy is water diplomacy
On December 16, 2021, Ogulnur Shohradova, Master of International Law, Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, made a presentation on the topic "An important direction of Turkmen diplomacy is water diplomacy" at the training center in important areas of diplomacy of Turkmenistan at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The agenda of the meeting included the consolidation of efforts of the countries of the world in solving water problems and the development of long-term strategies for the efficient use of water. Our esteemed President, who has a comprehensive approach to the tasks facing the Turkmen diplomacy, called the water issue one of the key areas of Turkmenistan's diplomacy. Accordingly, at the VII World Water Forum in Daegu, South Korea, in 2015, at the initiative of our esteemed President, an initiative in the field of water diplomacy was launched. Proposals to open a Regional Center for Climate Change Technologies in Central Asia in Ashgabat and to develop a UN Special Program for the Aral Sea Region and the UN Water Strategy are the basis of our country's initiatives in the field of water diplomacy.
In this course, everyone interested in water diplomacy, especially in cooperation with the United Nations and neighboring countries, in the implementation of large long-term projects, especially in the Central Asian region due to its historical and natural-geographical features, discussed in detail issues related to water resources management, access to water resources and their effective management, impact on development, economy, social system and international well-being of the states of the region.
