International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer
The ozone layer is super-charged oxygen in the lower level of the stratosphere. It helps sustain life on Earth by creating a fragile shield of gaseous protection around the planet that protects it from the harmful rays of the Sun. In 1994, September 16 was declared as the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer by the United Nations General Assembly. The day marks the signing of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that deplete the Ozone Layer in 1987.
The day was first celebrated on September 16, 1995.
The day, also known as World Ozone Day, is marked to remind individuals and governments about the importance of the ozone layer to our survival on Earth. Because of the consumption of the ozone layer, the Earth is exposed to ultraviolet radiation. These beams cause a harmful impact on living creatures on the Earth. It influences the cycle of photosynthesis in plants. Ascend in the temperature, different skin infections, a decline of invulnerability, and so forth are the plausible outcomes. Additionally, without the ozone layer, solar energy would damage ecosystems.
Researchers state that collective decisions and united action, supported and guided by science, are the only way to solve major and global challenges.
