THE TRAINING COURSE ON “WATER DIPLOMACY”
On May 1, 2024, at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, a regular training course on "Water Diplomacy" of the Training Center for Important Areas of Diplomacy of Turkmenistan was held. The training session was conducted by G. Annabaev, chief scientific officer of the Turkmen State Water Management Scientific-Production and Project Institute “Türkmensuwylymtaslama” of the State Committee on Water Management of Turkmenistan.
This training course was held on the topic "International Legal Basis of the Use of Transboundary Waters".
According to the Water Code of Turkmenistan, "transboundary waters" are water bodies that cross the border between two or more foreign countries or cross the state border through them.
The representative of the Water Science Project Institute noted that all issues related to the development of an integrated and harmonious use of transboundary water resources should be resolved only on the basis of generally recognized norms and principles of international law, taking into account the interests of all countries of the region.
In addition, the United Nations Organization and, in particular, the UN Regional Center in Turkmenistan have an important role in the context of the above. She noted that the work of the Center contributes to the creation of conditions for information and experience on large-scale issues of today, including a broad exchange of ideas in this field.
At the end of the Water Diplomacy course, the students exchanged questions and answers on the topics they were interested in. This training session on water diplomacy was very effective.
