On September 16-17, 2025, the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat hosted a two-day media literacy training aimed at strengthening critical thinking skills, combating disinformation, and enhancing digital security.
The national trainers included Serdar Agayev, Head of the Department for the Organization of Courts of Turkmenistan, and Dayanch Konarov, journalist at “Turkmenportal”. International expertise was provided remotely by Duman Smakov from the MediaNet International Journalism Centre in Kazakhstan.
The program covered the key aspects of the modern media landscape: current trends and principles of media literacy and international and national legal frameworks, methods of fact-checking and countering fake news, as well as the use of artificial intelligence in government institutions. On the second day, participants practiced tools for verifying photos and videos, identifying geolocation, and discussed safety rules in social networks.
The training concluded with a summary session and the awarding of certificates to participants.
