WORLD BICYCLE DAY
In April 2018, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 3 as World Bicycle Day with the initiative of Turkmenistan. The resolution for World Bicycle Day recognizes “the uniqueness, longevity and versatility of the bicycle, which has been in use for two centuries, and that it is a simple, affordable, reliable, clean and environmentally fit sustainable means of transport.”
According to the good tradition of recent years, on June 3, World Bicycle Day is widely and enthusiastically celebrated all over the world. Turkmenistan traditionally celebrates with mass bike rides. In Ashgabat, this action of many thousands is held with the participation of the country's leadership, foreign diplomats and representatives of international organizations working in Turkmenistan, athletes and students. Therefore, in our country, which is the initiator of such a large-scale holiday, this date is celebrated on a special scale. It is worth noting that today a cycling marathon started in our capital early in the morning, which was attended by our esteemed President. With the launch of the mass bicycle ride by the Esteemed President, all its participants began to act in unison. Healthy and active lifestyle principles help the people to fully realize and implement their potential. Our esteemed President confirms it by his personal example and inspires our compatriots, especially our youth, to great goals. As a result of the far-sighted state strategy implemented under the leadership of the esteemed President, the physical education and sports movement are widely popularized in Turkmenistan at present period.
It should be noted that students of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan also took an active part in the marathon and thus contributed to the celebration of this large-scale holiday. The consistent holding of such bike rides in our country contributes not only to the growth of the interest of the population in cycling, but also to a healthy lifestyle in general.
