Held elections of the deputies who left ahead of time of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan
Under the leadership of the honorable President, great importance is attached to the democratization of public life at a modern level in Turkmenistan. It is one of the important directions of the policy of our Arkadagly Hero Serdar. The humanitarian initiatives of our Hero-Arkadag have been successfully continued during the the Era of the Revival of the New Epoch of the Powerful State, the work of the electoral system has been continuously improved, and positive experiences of organizing elections in our country in accordance with our national laws and international norms have been collected.
On the basis of the Constitution of Turkmenistan and the Election Code of Turkmenistan, which include universally recognized international norms for conducting democratic elections, the electoral rights of citizens are fully ensured.
As it is known, in accordance with Articles 4 and 85 of the Election Code of Turkmenistan, in accordance with the decision No. 100-VII of April 20, 2024 of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, the 1st "Garashsyzlyk", the 2nd "Bitaraplyk" and the 6th "Kopetdag" districts of Ashgabat city, due to the premature departure of the deputies of the parliament of Turkmenistan, elections of deputies of Mejlis in those constituencies were held on Sunday, July 7, 2024.
In order to prepare for and conduct these elections in an organized manner, a meeting of the Central Comission for holding Elections and Referendums in Turkmenistan was held on April 25, 2024. Several issues related to the elections were considered in the Mejlis, and the plan of activities to prepare for the elections and organize them was approved. Thus, the season for upcoming elections started on April 26, 2024.
According to Article 1 of the Election Code of Turkmenistan, elections in the country are held on a competitive basis. The elections to replace the deputies of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan who left before the term of office of the 1st "Garashsyzlyk", 2nd "Bitaraplyk" and 6th "Kopetdag" districts of Ashgabat city will be held by the three political parties of the country, the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan, the Party of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan and The Agrarian Party of Turkmenistan , as well as citizens' groups.
Nominations began on May 8 this year and ended on June 6. Registration of candidates was held from May 18 to June 11. 9 candidates for the deputy of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan were registered in the respective electoral groups. 2 of them were nominated by the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan, 1 by the Industrialists and Entrepreneurs Party of Turkmenistan, 2 by the Agrarian Party of Turkmenistan, and 4 by citizen groups. 3 candidates from each constituency competed in the elections to the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, the representative body exercising legislative power in Turkmenistan, in the three constituencies of Ashgabat city.
Manuals, election documents, necessary stationery goods, ballots were prepared and distributed to the polling stations by the office of the Central Comission for holding Elections and Referendums in Turkmenistan. As part of the organized preparations for the elections, videos explaining the voting procedure were prepared and broadcasted to the public through TV channels.
Information about the candidates registered in the respective constituencies, their biographies and photos were published in Turkmen and Russian languages on the pages of central newspapers on June 13 of this year, as well as on the website of the Central Election Commission. In the year "The Fount of Wisdom of Magtymguly Fragi", young voters who turn 18 years old before the election day and voted for the first time were given presents.
The elections that were held on July 7, 2024 in the constituencies of the deputies of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, who left before the term of office, were held in accordance with international norms, our national laws and our democratic principles of our ancestors. The organized holding of the elections in accordance with the democratic principles, on the basis of multi-partisanship, in the conditions of wide competition is another clear proof that all conditions are created for our citizens to exercise their rights to choose and be elected.
