INTELLECTUAL COMPETITION DEDICATED TO INTERNATIONAL TRANSLATION DAY
On October 15, 2025, an intellectual competition, "Brain-Ring," titled "Building Bridges for Cross-Cultural Understanding" in the framework of "Realm of Languages" was held among the students of four faculties of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan to mark the International Translation Day.
In accordance with the terms of the intellectual competition, there were six categories designed to test a wide range of linguistic competence: Geography, World Literature, Phraseological Analysis (explaining the meaning of idioms in sentences), Linguistic Equivalence (finding Turkmen equivalents of English proverbs), Listening Comprehension (improving skills based on movie episodes), and Translation Skills for given tasks. The students effectively demonstrated their deep knowledge of the English language through these challenges.
According to the results of the competition, the rankings were as follows; the team of students from the Faculty of International Relations took 1st place, the team of students from the Faculty International Economic Relations took the 2nd place, the team of students from the Faculty of International Law took the 3rd place, and the team of students from the Faculty of International Journalism took the 4th place.
It should be noted that International Translation Day is widely celebrated every year on September 30th, a professional holiday of translators. The celebration of this international day was approved by the International Federation of Translators in 1991. In 2017, at the 71st session of the UN General Assembly, the Resolution on International Translation Day was unanimously adopted by all countries of the organization. In this Resolution, it is clear that the role of translators is great in ensuring peace in the world and establishing mutual understanding between nations.
Our esteemed President pays special attention to the development of science and education. The priority of learning foreign languages among Turkmen youth plays an important role in the education system. Knowledge of foreign languages provides many opportunities for the in-depth study of the cultures, traditions and history of different nations.
At the end of the competition, the participants expressed their gratitude to our Hero-Arkadag and our esteemed President for their tireless care for young people and state activities aimed at the further development of the national education system.
