International Day of Peace
- Every year on September 21, the international community celebrates the International Day of Peace. This Day was declared by the General Assembly as the day of strengthening the ideals of peace among all countries and peoples – both at the national and international levels. The International Day of Peace was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1981. Twenty years later, in 2001, the General Assembly unanimously decided to celebrate Peace Day every year as a day of non-violence. The UN calls on all countries and peoples to welcome the cessation of hostilities during the celebration of the International Day of Peace and to hold festive events on the occasion of the International Day of Peace in the format of educating and informing the public about issues related to peace.

One of the key goals of the foreign policy pursued by our neutral state is to ensure a high level of security and stability in the region and around the world. In this area, the international initiatives put forward by esteemed President of Turkmenistan within the framework of the UN for the practical implementation of the neutral legal status of the Motherland, the protection of peace and the enhancement of the culture of mutual trust between different states are of particular importance. In this context, it is gratifying to note that, at the 106th plenary meeting of the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly, all UN member states unanimously adopted the Resolution “2021 – International Year of Peace and Trust” initiated by the President of Turkmenistan.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development states that “there can be no sustainable development without peace and peace without sustainable development”. The same spirit is at the core of the 2016 Security Council and General Assembly resolutions on “peacekeeping”.
