Birthday of Indian humanist and politician Mahatma Gandhi
The Indian Embassy in Turkmenistan celebrated the birthday of the Indian humanist and politician Mahatma Gandhi. The ceremony was chaired by the Ambassador of India to Turkmenistan Vidhu Pitambaran Nair. An orange Indian floral ornament, which is traditionally used in Indian weddings, was laid at the Mhatma Gandhi monument at the Bagtyyarlyk sports complex in Ashgabat. On this occasion, the Indian Embassy showed a video about the life of Mahatma Gandhi. On October 2, Mahatma Gandhi's birthday is widely celebrated in India. On October 2, 1869, Mahatma Gandhi was named the "Father of the Indian State" and since then the festival has been celebrated in all cities of India. On June 2, 2007, the UN General Assembly declared the International Day of Non-Violence.
