Dutar as a Unique Tool of Cultural Diplomacy
On February 16, 2022, the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan hosted a festive meeting dedicated to the inclusion of dutar making craftsmanship and bagshi art into the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. It was organized together with the Central Council of the Youth Organization named after Magtymguly, the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO, the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan. It was attended by representatives of relevant institutions, faculty and students of the Institute.
During the event, Meretmyrat Amansahedov, senior teacher at the 5th Secondary School named after A. Ovezberdiyeva in Gokdepe district of Ahal province, dutar master, Charyar Jumayev, honored artist of Turkmenistan, Ph.D., laureate of the Youth Prize of Turkmenistan, Aygul Yagshiyeva, lecturer of the Maya Kuliyeva Turkmen National Conservatory of Turkmenistan, honored artist, Batyr Kairov, lecturer of the Department of World Languages of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Almanar Yazberdiyeva, lecturer of the Department of World Languages of the Institute, Aybolek Kakabayeva, volunteer of the Secretariat of the National Team of Turkmenistan for UNESCO, fourth-year student of the Faculty of International Relations of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan took part in the event.
The speeches provided a wide range of information on the large-scale work carried out under the wise leadership of our esteemed President to protect, restore and promote the national heritage of the country. In particular, the inclusion of dutar making craftsmanship and bagshi art into the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage, which has become a milestone in the life of our country and people, has been highly appreciated by the esteemed President. It was noted that this event is another victory of cultural diplomacy, and that it is another clear example of the international recognition of our national heritage and cultural values. In his speech at the recent session of the People’s Council of the National Council of Turkmenistan, the President highlighted the worthy role of young people in the development of our national traditions.
During the solemn ceremony, the students and teachers of the Maya Kuliyeva Turkmen National Conservatory performed their masterful music on the dutar. In addition, the interesting speeches of musicians on dutar left an impression on the participants.
During the event, the participants expressed their gratitude to the Hero Arkadag and wished him strong health, long life and success in his state affairs.
