on holding the essay writing competetion entitled «The Role of the International Humanitarian Law in the Support of Peace and Safety on the Planet» which will be held online among the students and masters of Higher Educational Institutions of the Central Asian Countries (Turkmenistan, Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Republic of Tajikistan and Republic of Uzbekistan) by the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan
One of the priority directions of Turkmenistan’s foreign policy strategy is the humanitarian policy in the name of all humanity. The role of Central Asian states in maintaining peace and security throughout the world is rapidly growing. Enormous, long-term fruitful work is being carried out to develop friendship, mutual understanding and cooperation between the states of the region, to strengthen peace and security, to deepen interaction between countries in the political, economic, as well as cultural and humanitarian spheres, and promote common interests and initiatives on the international arena. By demonstrating a responsible approach to issues of regional and international partnership, Turkmenistan makes a significant contribution to the coordination of the efforts to solve the most important problems of our time. Following the principles of the integrity and security of the Central Asian states, the indivisibility and interdependence of its various aspects, the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan announces an essay competition "The role of international humanitarian law in maintaining peace and security on the planet" among students and undergraduates of higher educational institutions of the countries of Central Asia (Turkmenistan, Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Republic of Tajikistan, Republic of Uzbekistan).
The aim of the competition is to popularize and disseminate knowledge about the fundamental principles of international humanitarian law among general public.
The rules of the competition are the following:
1. Only students and undergraduates of higher educational institutions can participate in the essay competition.
2. An Organizing Committee will be formed to conduct the essay competition on a high organizational level.
3. Participants should send an application with the information about the author and the author's work via email.
4. Only 1 (one) individual author's work is accepted for the competition. Group works are not accepted.
5. The content of the essay must be strictly related to the topic of the competition. The essay must not have been previously submitted to other competitions.
6. Essays for the essay competition are accepted only in Russian.
7. The essay and application with the information about the author should be sent before April 15, 2024 via email to hhkafedra@gmail.com
8. The results of the competition will be posted on the institute's website (iirmfa.edu.tm) on May 1, 2024.
9. Knowledge in the field of international humanitarian law, originality of the idea, the relation of the content of the essay to the declared theme of the competition, the ability to work with primary sources and the quality of presentation will be taken into account when determining the best essays.
10. An independent jury will judge and summarize the results of the works submitted to the competition.
11. The winners of the competition will be awarded diplomas and memorable gifts.
12. The awarding ceremony for the winners of the competition will take place on May 8, 2024 at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
13. Winners from participating countries other than Turkmenistan will be able to take part in the awarding ceremony via digital video communication (online).
14. It is planned to publish the works of the winners of the competition in the scientific journal "Foreign Policy and Diplomacy of Turkmenistan."
Requirements for registration of the competitive works:
• The essay should not exceed 1000 words;
• The text of the work submitted for the competition must be written in Times New Roman font;
• First and last name, occupation (in full) and the country of the author must be written in bold, the font size must be 14, aligned to the right;
• The title of the essay must be written in capital letters, in bold, and aligned to the center of the page, font size 16;
• Skip 1 line before writing the rest of the work;
• The main text of the essay must be written in font 14, width alignment, line spacing must be 1.5;
• Margin size: top and bottom – 2.0 cm, left – 2.5 cm, right – 1.5 cm;
• Essays are accepted in Word format (with doc and docx extensions).
• After submitting the work, the author cannot make changes or additions. The accepted works will not be returned.
• The name of the essay file is the first and last name of the author, the country of the participant and the word "essay." (For example: "Oraz Orazov, Turkmenistan, essay.")
Dates of the stages of the competition:
April 15, 2024 – is the last day to submit your work.
May 1, 2024 – the list of the winners will be posted on the institute's website.
May 8, 2024 – the awarding ceremony for participants and winners will be held.
