World Statistics Day
Every five years, October 20 is World Statistics Day. World Statistics Day was approved on June 3, 2010, at the 41st session of the UN General Assembly. The adoption of this Resolution was justified by the importance of producing timely and reliable statistics and indicators to measure progress. In large part, this data provides the necessary basis for making informed policy decisions and monitoring the achievement of development goals. In 2015, the UN General Assembly in its Resolution 69/282 decided October 20, 2015 as the second World Statistics Day under the general slogan “Improving the quality of data, improving the quality of life. The third World Statistics Day, celebrated on October 20, 2020, is dedicated to the theme “Connecting the world with data we can trust”.
Our country also attaches great importance to the celebration of the World Statistics Day. In 2019, the book “Static Yearbook of Turkmenistan” was published by the State Committee of Turkmenistan on Statistics. It contained information on the social and economic growth of Turkmenistan for 2007-2019.
World Statistics Day aims to draw public attention to the important work that employees of statistical agencies and organizations carry out every day. By collecting accurate, objective and comparable data, they contribute to a wide range of work at the national and international level.
