Celebrating the English language at the Institute of International Relations
On April 23, 2022, the “Lingvo World” Club of the Department of World Languages of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan held an event dedicated to the English Language Day of the UN.
It is known that April 23 marks the UN English Language Day. April 23 is also observed as both the birthday and date of death of William Shakespeare. During the event, several activities were carried out by the members of the “Lingvo World” Club, such as making presentations on the history, significance and peculiarities of English, on famous British and American writers, such as William Shakespeare and Mark Twain, on English speaking countries, the US, UK, Canada and Australia, citing poems, performing songs, role playing in English. Within the framework of the event, the students also played a quiz game in which players attempted to answer questions correctly about the English language and general knowledge.
The aim of conducting such events was to increase awareness and respect for the history, culture and achievements of each of the six working languages among the UN community and to develop language skills of students.
It is worth noting that special attention is paid to the study of foreign languages in Turkmenistan. To this end, all necessary conditions have been created in kindergartens, secondary and specialized schools, higher educational institutions, which led to the increased interest of young people in learning foreign languages, in particular English.
