Goal 8 "Decent work and economic growth"
To achieve sustainable economic growth, the government has developed a number of programs that expand the production base and involve the private sector more widely. For example, the country is carrying out a systematic transition to market relations, which is defined in the Program of the President of Turkmenistan for the socio-economic development of the country for 2019-2025. This provides for deepening and accelerating structural reforms based on a more diversified market economy, creating new jobs, stimulating the development of small and medium-sized businesses, and expanding employment in the private sector.
When privatizing state-owned enterprises, measures of social protection of employees, environmental safety, and environmental protection must be ensured. At the same time, a set of measures to support the population includes simplifying the registration procedure for established enterprises, simplifying the tax system and increasing its stability, financial support (lending), further growth of wages and salaries in all sectors. The measures taken by the government to restructure sectors of the economy create opportunities for opening new enterprises and creating new jobs in the country.
Close attention is paid to the creation of favorable conditions for leading a decent lifestyle by maintaining a culture of labor protection, ensuring reliable and safe working conditions. Turkmenistan has ratified the fundamental conventions of the International Labor Organization (ILO). Labor protection issues, compensation payments, and the provision of benefits to workers in difficult conditions are supervised by trade unions. At the same time, public control over employer compliance with labor protection obligations is widespread.
In Turkmenistan, special attention is paid to the protection of the rights of children, especially their involvement in labor activity. To this end, the National Action Plan for the Realization of Children's Rights for 2018-2022 was adopted, developed jointly with UNICEF. It provides ensuring their rights and well-being.
The expansion of the geography and variety of tourist routes, the formation of a national tourist complex have a stimulating effect on the development of other sectors of the economy, create conditions for the popularization of the country's cultural and natural heritage, as well as for the implementation of a sustainable tourism strategy and increasing its contribution to the country's economy.
