February 13 is World Radio Day
On February 12, 1950, the European Broadcasting Association was established. Its headquarter is located in Geneva and have members not only in Europe, but also in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. In June 2011, UNESCO held extensive consultations with all stakeholders, including broadcasting associations, public and international broadcasting organizations, UN agencies, foundations and non-governmental organizations working in the field of academia.
In 2012, with the approval of the UN General Assembly, World Radio Day was declared February 13. Radio continues to be the most widely used media today. In addition to World Radio Day, fans of this type of communication also celebrate World Amateur Radio Day. The radio serves as a platform for informing the public, creating a well-cultural society and to voice and to be heard every way. It serves the interests of different groups of the population by offering various programs on radio stations. Globally, radio remains the most widely used media.
The purpose of World Radio Day is to raise awareness about the importance of radio for the public and the media. This is a unique means to reach out to a wide audience. UNESCO is calling celebrating this International Day in 2021.
