Human Fraternity is a pillar of peace and cooperation
Fraternity means a fraternity (Latin frater: “brother”) is a brotherhood. A fraternity or sorority is a brotherhood or sisterhood formed around common goals and aspirations. These men and women make a commitment to each other for life. The members that form a fraternity or sorority share their efforts, friendship, and knowledge as well as a friendship and mutual support with each other.
The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted the resolution A/RES/75/200 on December 21, 2020 and proclaimed on February 4 of every year as International Day of Human Fraternity. It is worth noting the statement of General António Guterres, that the International Day of Human Fraternity celebrates the values that “are the glue that hold our human family together” - compassion, religious understanding, and mutual respect.
Why is human fraternity important?
One of its purposes is to achieve international cooperation in solving international problems, including by promoting and encouraging respect for human rights and for fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, language or religion. Judging above, the importance of celebrating this day lies in the fact that the International Day of Human Fraternity celebrates the values of understanding, raising awareness of different cultures in the world. In additional, human Fraternity is a pillar of peace and cooperation.
It is necessary to underline that human brotherhood (fraternity) expresses a deep hope for a bright future for all people, therefore an honest and serious effort has been given to this idea to unite all people of good and sincere aspirations. A guide for future generations in promoting interreligious and intercultural dialogue in order to promote peace and social stability, respect for diversity and mutual respect, and to create and make all people brothers and sisters.
In conclusion, analyzing above that a culture of peace is a set of values, attitudes, traditions and modes of behavior and ways of life aimed at showing respect for the principles of freedom, justice, democracy, tolerance, solidarity, cooperation, cultural diversity, dialogue and understanding at all levels of societies and among nations, as well as encouraged by a favorable national and international environment conducive to peace.
